Tripura government extend Disturb Area Act
Agartala, 12 October, 2009 (By Prasanta Chakraborty): Tripura government has today decided to extend Arned Forces Special Power Act (Disturb Areas Act) for another term of six months in all the disturbed Police station areas. A notification in this regards has been issued by the state Home Department today as per the recommendation of the state level coordination committee of the security forces.
At least three central paramilitary forces are now deployed in the state for the anti insurgency operation in the tribal dominated areas.
'The state cabinet has after the thorough deliberation on the recomendation of the SLCC(state level coordination committee) has decided not to withdraw the Disturb Area Act for another six months taking in view the sporadic movement of both the outlawed insurgent groups (NLFT & ATTF) in the hilly areas', the notification said.
Govt. recently withdrew escort system in the NH-44 after the gap of 16 years, as the overall situation developed significantly in the state, specially in the inrerior areas. Nearly 300 extremists have laid down arms during last six months paving the way for the state administration to open the National Highway from dawn to dusk for the smoth running of the vehicular traffic in the life line of the state.
