Dibru Saikhowa National Park

A national park since March 1999, on the southern flood plain of the Brahmaputra ¬near Tinsukia, this is largely a semi-wet evergreen forest. The best time to visit is from November to March. Temperature ranges from 6°C to 36°C. Average annual rainfall ranges from 2,300 to 3,600 mm.

Entry points: Guijan on the southern boundary and Dhola (near Saikhowa Ghat) at the northern edge, both accessible by bus from Tinsukia. From Guijan, a boat across the river takes you to the Range Office at the park entrance. Ifyou cross from Dhola, the Range Office is 5 km into the park at Narbarmora; it is better to notify your arrival beforehand. See Kaziranga above for usual park fees.

The 340 sq km core area within a large bio-sphere reserve is a refuge for some endangered species (tiger, leopard, leopard cat, clouded leopard, elephant etc). The rich birdlife includes the very rare white-winged wood duck.
